Buy nipples, nuts and washers for your lamp repair

One good thing in the jungle of sockets and bulbs is that lamp parts were standardised many years ago so that they fit together. The thread on lamp parts is almost always M10, which means 10 mm in diameter.

Lamp holders for the E14 and E27 screw sockets have an internal thread that fits onto a nipple, which is a hollow threaded tube with an M10 thread. Nuts and washers are used to lock the nipple in place through a hole.

Always add a strain relief, so that the cable from the lamp holder is held in place and no weight rests on the wires in the cable.

As always, you may replace a broken part in a lamp yourself if you know exactly how to do it. If you are unsure, leave the work to an electrician.
